Bibb County Deputy Arrests Impaired Driver Who Nearly Rear-Ended Patrol Car
Macon, GA — A Bibb County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrested an impaired driver who nearly crashed into a patrol vehicle while it was stopped at a red light in northwest Macon.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, H.E.A.T. Unit Deputy Dalton Palmer was stopped at a red light on Forest Hill Road when a vehicle approached from behind and nearly struck his patrol cruiser.
During the traffic stop, deputies determined the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and admitted to drinking a mixed alcoholic beverage while driving. The driver also told deputies he had taken prescription medications that could cause impairment.
After conducting field sobriety tests, Drug Recognition Expert Cpl. Shane Smith performed an additional evaluation and determined the driver was under the influence of drugs.
The suspect was arrested and transported to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the driver faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence of drugs, driving while license suspended or revoked, and open container.
