Richmond County Deputies Arrest Suspect After SWAT Response at Augusta Home

Augusta, GA — A man wanted on a probation violation and questioned in connection with an aggravated assault investigation was taken into custody Friday evening after a SWAT response at a residence in Richmond County.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the Crime Suppression Team responded around 6:08 p.m. on March 6 to 911 Horseshoe Road to locate a suspect identified as Ricky Lee Mander.

Deputies said Mander ran into the residence when they arrived on scene. At the time, it was unclear whether he was armed or if other individuals were inside the home.

Authorities secured the perimeter of the residence and attempted to contact Mander, but those attempts were unsuccessful.

Because of the uncertainty and potential danger to nearby residents, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office activated its SWAT Team.

SWAT officers later entered the residence through the open front door.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., deputies took Mander into custody without incident. Officials said the home was cleared and no injuries were reported.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office thanked members of the surrounding community for their patience and cooperation during the operation.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges could be filed.
