17-Year-Old Arrested After Armed Carjacking of Lyft Driver in Macon
MACON, Ga. — A 17-year-old suspect has been arrested following an armed robbery and carjacking involving a Lyft driver early Monday morning, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded just after midnight after the incident was reported to the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center. Patrol deputies met the victim at the intersection of Ell Street and Laveta Drive.
The Lyft driver told deputies he had picked up three male passengers and, upon arriving at their destination on Ell Street, the suspects brandished firearms and demanded his vehicle. The victim exited the vehicle, and the suspects drove away in it.
Deputies later spotted the stolen vehicle on Log Cabin Drive and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop, leading deputies on a brief pursuit. The suspect vehicle eventually lost control near Log Cabin Drive and Hillcrest Road, striking an embankment.
Two suspects fled on foot. A third suspect exited the vehicle holding a firearm and pointed it toward deputies. Deputies ordered the suspect to drop the weapon. When the suspect attempted to flee, a deputy deployed a Taser and successfully apprehended him. The firearm was recovered and determined to have been stolen from the victim’s vehicle.
Authorities identified the suspect as Anthony Dewayne Goolsby, 17, of Macon. He was transported to a local medical facility for treatment of injuries before being booked into the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
Goolsby faces multiple charges, including:
