Man Pleads Guilty in Atlanta to Hacking Teens’ Snapchat for Nude Photos and Extortion
Atlanta, GA – A 22-year-old man from Mobile, Alabama, pleaded guilty this week in federal court to computer fraud, extortion, and cyberstalking after orchestrating a three-year scheme that targeted hundreds of young victims, including minors, by hijacking their Snapchat, Instagram, and other social media accounts to steal private nude images and videos, then extorting them for more explicit content or money.
Jamarcus Mosley admitted to using deceptive tactics—such as impersonating friends or offering fake account recovery help—to gain access to victims’ accounts between at least April 2022 and May 2025. Once in control, he threatened to publicly release stolen intimate images and videos or permanently lock victims out of their accounts unless they complied with his demands, which included sending additional sexually explicit material or cash.
“Mosley is the dangerous online stranger that every parent fears,” said U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg. “By exploiting the trust of teens and young adults, Mosley hacked into their accounts to steal intimate and sexually suggestive images and extorted them over a three-year period. This cruel, calculated scheme is the latest reminder that everyone must exercise great care with whom they interact online.”
“This case highlights the serious and devastating impact cyber exploitation can have on victims, especially young people,” said Kennesaw Police Chief Bill Westenberger. “Mosley deliberately manipulated and extorted individuals during what should have been one of the safest and most secure times of their lives. It is deeply disturbing that someone would believe they could carry out such calculated and predatory acts without consequence.”
Court documents outline several specific examples:
- In April 2022, Mosley posed as a high school friend (Victim-2) on Instagram to contact a 20-year-old woman in Kennesaw, Georgia (Victim-1). He tricked her into providing a Snapchat recovery passcode, then used it to take over her account, access her private nude images and videos, and threaten to post “65 videos and [a] picture” of her unless she complied.
- In December 2022, after hacking an 18-year-old Florida woman’s (Victim-3) Snapchat account, Mosley taunted her by asking “Should I post these?” while referencing her stolen nude images. When she refused to send more photos, he publicly posted the images.
- Mosley tricked a 17-year-old Illinois victim (Victim-4) into sharing her Snapchat “My Eyes Only” passcode, giving him full access. He then demanded she create a new account to continue communicating with him or he would expose her private folder. When she resisted, he used her real account to contact her 13-year-old sister, sending a Snapchat map screenshot showing the sister’s location and claiming “I know where you live.”
Sentencing for Mosley is scheduled for May 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. before U.S. District Judge Michael L. Brown in the Northern District of Georgia.
The case was investigated by the Kennesaw Police Department with assistance from the United States Secret Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex R. Sistla is prosecuting the case.
