12-Year-Old Arrested After Alleged School Shooting Threat at Camden Middle School
CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. — A 12-year-old Camden Middle School student has been taken into custody after authorities say she made threats suggesting a possible school shooting.
According to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began after text messages were reported that allegedly inferred an intent to carry out a shooting at the Kingsland, Georgia school on Friday.
The messages were immediately turned over to the school’s School Resource Officer, allowing deputies to respond quickly. Investigators identified the juvenile suspect and arrested her at her residence after learning she was not attending school that day.
Because the suspect is a minor, officials said no identifying information or additional details about the case will be released. The case is being handled under Georgia juvenile justice laws and procedures.
“We take every threat to our schools seriously, regardless of age or intent,” Sheriff Kevin Chaney said. “Thanks to the quick actions of those who reported this information, we were able to address the situation promptly and protect our students and staff.”
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that threats made through text messages, social media, online platforms, or in person are treated as credible safety concerns and can lead to arrest, school discipline, and long-term legal consequences.
Authorities are encouraging parents and guardians to speak with children about the seriousness of making threats of violence and the potential consequences.
The Camden County Sheriff’s Office said it will continue working closely with the Camden County School System to maintain campus safety and urged community members to report suspicious or concerning behavior immediately.
