Two Suspects Shot, Arrested After Alleged Machete-Wielding Home Invasion in Coffee County
COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. – Two Douglas residents were arrested after investigators say an attempted armed home invasion ended when a homeowner fired a shotgun in self-defense, according to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.
On February 21, 2026, deputies responded to reports of gunshot victims near Tyler Road and located Stephanie Ann Nicole Castillo, 35, and Elisabet Gaspar, 27, both of Douglas, suffering from injuries connected to the incident.
Investigators determined the two suspects allegedly entered a residence intending to commit a robbery and attacked the homeowner with a machete. Authorities said the homeowner discharged a shotgun during the confrontation.
Both suspects were transported for medical treatment and later taken into custody.
Castillo and Gaspar are charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, and first-degree home invasion. Officials said additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
The Sheriff’s Office stated it supports the right of residents to defend themselves and emphasized that violent crimes will be pursued aggressively. Authorities noted that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
