Three Arrested After Shots Fired Call Leads to Drug Bust in Toccoa

TOCCOA, Georgia – Two males and one female were arrested Wednesday, February 18, 2026, following an investigation into a reported shooting at a residence in Toccoa.

At approximately 12:48 p.m., Stephens County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a report of shots fired and a physical altercation at a home on Skyline Drive near Stephen Drive. Deputies, investigators with the Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit, and officers with the Toccoa Police Department responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered two males engaged in a physical altercation while fighting over a firearm. Officers intervened and secured compliance after a brief struggle. One male was detained at the scene, while the other was transported by Stephens County EMS to a nearby hospital for evaluation of moderate injuries. Deputies secured the firearm as evidence. No gunshot wounds were reported, though investigators determined that at least one round had been discharged.

Authorities secured the scene while obtaining a search warrant from a Stephens County magistrate judge. During the course of the assault investigation, narcotics investigators were contacted after suspected marijuana was observed inside the residence.

At approximately 3:31 p.m., investigators executed a search warrant on the residence and a vehicle on the property. During the search, authorities located approximately 1.8 pounds (850.2 grams) of suspected marijuana packaged for distribution, three boxes containing chocolate bars made with psilocybin, multiple boxes containing approximately 38 THC vape cartridges, and a digital scale.

The following individuals were arrested and transported to the Stephens County Jail:

• Xavier Collins, 17, of Toccoa
• Jonathan Mayfield, 21, of Toccoa
• Lateriya Hickman, 35, of Toccoa

Mayfield has been charged with Battery and Reckless Conduct.

Collins faces charges of Battery, Reckless Conduct, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Certain Crime, and Possession of a Handgun by a Person Under the Age of 18.

Both Collins and Hickman have also been charged with three counts of Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute and seven counts of Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance.

All three individuals remain in custody awaiting bond hearings before a Stephens County magistrate judge.
