Lockdown at Newton High Linked to Ongoing Investigation; Multiple Students Detained

COVINGTON, Georgia – The Newton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division was on campus at Newton High School on February 13 as part of an ongoing investigation.

As a precaution, the school was placed on lockdown while investigators conducted their work. Authorities confirmed the incident under investigation did not occur on school grounds.

During the operation, four students were detained. One student has been arrested, two remain in custody, and one has been released. Investigators also confirmed that two additional arrests had already been made prior to February 13 in connection with the case.

Sheriff Ezell Brown thanked the Newton County School System, including its police department, staff, and administration, for their cooperation and assistance. He also recognized the efforts of Sheriff’s Office investigators who have been actively working the case.

The investigation remains active. Officials say a full news release, including the suspects’ names, will be issued at a later time.
