Two Arrested After Shots Fired in Stephens County High School Parking Lot
TOCCOA, Georgia – Two people have been arrested after gunfire erupted Tuesday night in the parking lot of Stephens County High School, prompting a brief lockdown during sporting events on campus, authorities said.
Deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8 p.m. February 10, 2026, to reports of shots fired in the student parking lot. School Resource Officers who were on duty for two sporting events were alerted to the possible gunfire and responded alongside the Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit and school administrators.
The school was placed on lockdown for approximately 30 minutes while deputies secured the scene, interviewed witnesses, collected evidence and reviewed surveillance footage. At about 8:30 p.m., investigators determined the scene was safe and lifted the lockdown. No injuries were reported.
Authorities said investigators determined a driver and passenger fired multiple shots in the parking lot before immediately leaving campus.
As the investigation progressed, two suspects were identified and warrants were issued for Aggravated Assault. Both individuals were taken into custody February 11th and booked into the Stephens County Jail. Additional charges are pending, and both remain in custody.
“No student, parent, or teacher should have to fear going to school or sporting events. We will not tolerate this kind of behavior that endangers Stephens County students and families,” Sheriff Rusty Fulbright said in a statement. He added that law enforcement and school officials worked quickly to secure the campus.
The investigation remains active. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigation Division tip line at (706) 886-7048 or the non-emergency dispatch line at (706) 779-3911.
