K9 Struck by Vehicle During Pursuit of Bank Robbery Suspect in Newnan
NEWNAN, Georgia – A bank robbery suspect was taken into custody Wednesday after a vehicle pursuit and foot chase in Newnan that left a Coweta County Sheriff’s Office K9 injured, authorities said.
Deputies were notified February 11, 2026, of a possible bank robbery in progress within the city. Deputies in the area located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield, initiating a pursuit.
During the chase, the suspect lost control and crashed near the intersection of Newnan Crossing Bypass and Bullsboro Drive. The suspect then fled on foot.
A CCSO K9 handler deployed K9 Robbi to assist in the apprehension. While pursuing the suspect, the K9 was struck by a vehicle. Despite being hit, Robbi continued the chase and helped deputies take the suspect into custody.
Robbi was transported to Sweetwater Veterinary Hospital, where veterinary staff determined the dog suffered minor abrasions with no internal injuries. Authorities said the K9 is expected to make a full recovery.
The Newnan Police Department is leading the investigation.
