Quick Police Work, Brief Chase Lead to Armed Robbery Arrest in Fayette County
FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. — A 23-year-old man is in custody after a robbery at a Fayetteville gas station led to a short police pursuit Sunday afternoon.
On February 8, 2026, deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a robbery in progress at the Amoco gas station located at 1552 Highway 85 South in Fayetteville. By the time deputies arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene.
Investigators say high-resolution surveillance footage from the convenience store played a key role in quickly identifying the suspect and his vehicle. A lookout was immediately broadcast to surrounding agencies.
Officers with the Peachtree City Police Department soon located the vehicle near the intersection of Highway 74 and Highway 54. A brief pursuit followed, ending near Dividend Road and Paschall Road.
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Kenny Richards, was taken into custody without incident.
Richards is being held at the Fayette County Jail and faces multiple charges, including Armed Robbery, three counts of Aggravated Assault, Felony Possession of a Firearm, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, and Misdemeanor Parking in a Handicap Zone.
Sheriff Barry Babb commended both agencies for their swift coordination and response, noting that the quick identification of the suspect and seamless teamwork were instrumental in bringing the situation to a safe conclusion.
