Deputy Wades Into Pond During Rainstorm to Capture Wanted Suspect in Bibb County
BIBB COUNTY, Ga. – A wanted suspect was taken into custody after leading deputies on a foot chase that ended in a swampy pond during a rainstorm, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the suspect initially tried to elude investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division Property Unit and Patrol Division deputies while riding a dirt bike. After abandoning the bike, the man reportedly jumped a fence and fled on foot behind a home on Dixon Road.
Sgt. Michael Dorough located the suspect and pursued him into a swampy area, where the chase ended with the suspect entering a pond. During heavy rain, Sgt. Dorough waded into the water and pulled the man out.
Once removed from the pond, the suspect was placed in handcuffs and transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center by H.E.A.T. Unit Sgt. Reginald Tillman.
Officials said the man was wanted on outstanding warrants in both Bibb County and Jones County. Additional charges are pending.
At the time of his arrest, the suspect was wearing a Gray Brothers Tree Service shirt. In a statement, Gray Brothers Tree Service said the individual is not and has never been affiliated with the company.
“We are aware of a recent arrest involving an individual wearing a shirt displaying our company name,” the company said. “We would like to make it very clear that this person is not and has never been associated with our company in any capacity. The shirt being worn is an outdated item that has not been used or distributed by our business in more than 15 years.”
The company added that it values its reputation and community standing and wanted to clarify the matter promptly.
