Man Kills Himself as Deputies Serve Child Molestation Warrant in Pickens County
PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. – A man was found dead inside a Pickens County home Thursday afternoon after deputies heard a gunshot while attempting to serve a warrant related to a child molestation investigation, authorities said.
According to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at a residence off Beaver Ridge Road at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 5 to execute the warrant. While deputies were knocking on the door, they heard a single gunshot from inside the home.
Deputies immediately pulled back, secured the area, obtained a search warrant, and requested assistance from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team.
SWAT officers later made entry into the residence and located the subject deceased from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities said the individual’s name is not being released at this time as the investigation remains active. No deputies or members of the public were injured during the incident.
