License Plate Cameras Help Dougherty County Police Solve Violent Crimes
DOUGHERTY COUNTY, Ga. – The Dougherty County Police Department says license plate recognition cameras have played a significant role in solving violent crimes, theft cases, and assisting neighboring agencies over the past two years.
According to the department, the Flock Safety camera system has helped investigators identify suspect vehicles, track movements, and link cases from 2024 through early 2026.
In 2024, police say the system contributed to solving a range of serious crimes, including one felony murder, six aggravated assaults involving firearms, one armed robbery and aggravated assault, one aggravated child molestation, one kidnapping, one aggravated stalking, three burglaries, two motor vehicle or cargo thefts, and three felony thefts.
During 2025, investigators used the system to help clear five aggravated assaults involving firearms, three armed robberies and aggravated assaults, five burglaries, three motor vehicle thefts, and two felony shoplifting rings that led to the resolution of multiple related cases.
So far in 2026, the camera system has already assisted in solving two burglary cases, according to police.
Officials said the technology has also supported neighboring agencies, including the Albany Police Department, by allowing departments to share information and collaborate across jurisdictions.
Beyond criminal investigations, the department said its Patrol Division uses the system during traffic enforcement. Those efforts have resulted in arrests of wanted individuals, recovery of stolen property, seizure of illegal items, and the issuance of traffic citations.
Police officials said the license plate recognition system improves response times, strengthens cooperation with other agencies, and supports proactive crime prevention efforts across Dougherty County.
