LEE COUNTY, Georgia – Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies are continuing an active investigation after responding to a reported shots-fired incident late Wednesday night near a busy commercial area on Ledo Road.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were patrolling the area when they heard multiple gunshots coming from the vicinity of the Walmart at 2825 Ledo Road in Albany, GA. Deputies immediately responded and began canvassing an area behind the store, where they observed two vehicles and several individuals gathered in a field.

As deputies approached, one vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, prompting a pursuit. The fleeing vehicle, later identified as a gray 2025 Kia K4, traveled from Lee County into Dougherty County before deputies lost sight of it. A registration check identified the vehicle’s owner as Rontavious Grant of Albany.

At the time of the incident, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team happened to be conducting training nearby and assisted patrol deputies with efforts to locate those involved. Witnesses told deputies they observed an individual wearing dark clothing firing a weapon described as an AR-style pistol before law enforcement arrived.

Based on witness statements and investigative findings, deputies later located Grant at his place of employment in Albany and detained him. Deputies reported that Grant resisted detention and attempted to pull away before being placed in handcuffs.

Grant’s vehicle was subsequently located at the Quinn Court Apartments in Albany and towed to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office impound lot. On January 29, investigators executed a search warrant on the vehicle and recovered an unspent .223 caliber round that matched a spent shell casing found at the original scene.

Authorities say there is no evidence at this time that anyone was injured during the incident.

Grant was arrested and charged with reckless conduct, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and no insurance. He was transported to the Lee County Jail without further incident.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Captain Russ Snow at 229-759-6012.
