Officer Shoots Armed Woman Outside Cobb County Police Headquarters

MARIETTA, Georgia – GBI investigators are examining an officer-involved shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon outside the Cobb County Police Department Headquarters in Marietta.

According to preliminary information, on January 28, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m., 26-year-old Rebekah Patterson of Marietta entered the Cobb County Police Department headquarters on Fairground Street and requested to speak with an officer. An officer met Patterson outside the building to speak with her.

During the conversation, Patterson produced a handgun and pointed it at the officer. The officer issued multiple verbal commands instructing her to drop the weapon. Patterson did not comply and continued pointing the gun at the officer. The officer then discharged his weapon, striking Patterson multiple times.

Additional officers arrived on scene and immediately rendered medical aid. Patterson was transported to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition. No officers were injured during the incident.

At the request of the Cobb County Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has assumed responsibility for the investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
