Murder Suspect Dies After Being Found Unresponsive in Bibb County Jail Cell
MACON, Georgia – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center after he was found unresponsive during morning rounds.
On Thursday, January 29th, just after 8:30 a.m., corrections deputies and jail medical staff conducting routine medication rounds discovered an inmate unresponsive in his cell. Lifesaving measures were immediately initiated by jail medical personnel.
The inmate, later identified as 24-year-old Quintavious Vincent Johnson, was transported to the jail’s medical area, where EMS continued lifesaving efforts. Despite those attempts, Johnson was pronounced deceased by Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley.
Because this is an in-custody death, an autopsy will be performed. The incident is being investigated by Internal Affairs investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Office of Professional Standards, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been notified.
According to the Bibb County Coroner’s Office, Johnson’s next of kin has been notified. At the time of his death, Johnson was being held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center on charges including murder, pointing a gun at another, aggravated assault, and a hold for Houston County. Johnson had been accused for the killing of Kealan Tre Hardeman in November, 2023. He had been arrested January, 2024, in Bleckley County, then extradited to Bibb County.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office extended its condolences to Johnson’s family and to all those affected by his passing.
