Banks County Investigates Bomb Threat After Voicemail Targets School System
BANKS COUNTY, Georgia – Banks County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a bomb threat that prompted a multi-agency response across the county’s school system on Wednesday morning.
According to authorities, the Banks County Sheriff’s Office was notified around 11:30 a.m. on January 28, 2026, after the Banks County School System received a bomb threat by voicemail. The message did not specify a particular school.
Although schools were not in session due to lingering winter weather conditions, officials initiated a full response out of an abundance of caution. Bomb detection K-9 units from several agencies assisted in conducting thorough searches of all schools within the district. Participating agencies included the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Union County Schools Police Department, and the Roswell Police Department.
After extensive searches, no suspicious devices or items were found at any of the school facilities.
The investigation remains active and is being handled by the Banks County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency.
Sheriff’s officials emphasized that the safety and security of students, staff, and the community remain their top priority and thanked the school system and partner agencies for their cooperation and swift response.
