Arrest Made in Monroe Shooting That Killed Pregnant Woman, Injured Man

MONROE, Georgia – Police have arrested a suspect in a Monroe deadly shooting that claimed the life of a seven-months-pregnant woman and wounded a man in the early morning hours of January 25, 2026.

According to the Monroe Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence at 112 G.W. Carver Drive after reports of a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers found Teonia Stokes deceased at the scene. Police confirmed Stokes was seven months pregnant at the time of the shooting. A second victim, identified as Curdarious Williams, was also located suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers and detectives immediately secured the scene and launched an extensive investigation, collecting evidence, conducting interviews, and executing search warrants to determine the circumstances and motive behind the shooting.

Investigators worked closely with multiple law enforcement partners, including the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, the Walton County District Attorney’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Social Circle Police Department, and the Georgia Department of Community Supervision. Through these collaborative efforts, authorities identified Dorreous Brooks as a suspect and obtained arrest warrants charging him with Felony Murder and Feticide.

A multi-agency search followed, involving the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, Covington Police Department, and the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office. On the evening of the arrest, Brooks was located and taken into custody without incident with assistance from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.
