HIAWASSEE, Ga. – Authorities from Towns County and Rabun County have arrested 38-year-old Joshua Emmett Robertson following an extensive multi-jurisdictional investigation into allegations of sexual exploitation of a minor and related offenses, officials announced on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

The case began on November 5, 2025, when Towns County deputies responded to a report of a possible firearm theft from a family member at Robertson’s residence in Hiawassee. During the initial investigation, officers observed drug paraphernalia and suspected marijuana in the home.

As the inquiry deepened, evidence emerged suggesting potential sexual criminal activity involving Robertson and a 15-year-old juvenile who lived at the residence. Investigators secured a search warrant, which led to the discovery of illegal narcotics and digital evidence indicating inappropriate and unlawful conduct with the minor.

Due to the victim’s age, the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services was immediately notified, and the juvenile was placed in protective care. A forensic interview with the juvenile revealed disclosures of a sexual relationship with the suspect.

Subsequent digital forensic analysis uncovered additional incriminating materials, including images and video files of a sexual nature involving the juvenile. Investigators determined that several of the alleged criminal acts took place in Rabun County, prompting the issuance of arrest warrants in both jurisdictions.

Robertson reportedly fled Georgia during the investigation. Through coordinated efforts involving the Towns County Sheriff’s Office, Rabun County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office in West Virginia, where additional warrants were active, the suspect was located and taken into custody in West Virginia.

Following extradition proceedings, Robertson was returned to Georgia to face charges in both Towns and Rabun counties.

No further identifying information about the victim will be released due to their age. The Towns County Sheriff’s Office praised the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, and all assisting agencies for their professionalism and cooperation in resolving the case.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Towns County Sheriff’s Office.
