GBI Investigating Death of Tattnall County Man During Arrest Warrant Service

TATTNALL COUNTY, Ga. – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of 35-year-old Clinton Wayne Scarboro of Uvalda, GA, following an attempted arrest Thursday morning in Tattnall County.

According to preliminary information, GBI agents with the Special Enforcement Team (SET) were assisting the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office in executing an arrest warrant issued out of Emanuel County. The operation began around 11:20 a.m. on January 15, 2026, at a residence in the 100 block of Middle Road in Collins.

Agents arrived at the home and issued repeated commands over a public address system for Scarboro to exit the residence. A woman who lived at the home came outside and confirmed Scarboro was inside. After Scarboro failed to respond, agents deployed pepper-based chemical agents into the residence.

Following continued unsuccessful attempts to make contact, agents deployed a robot into the home. Video from the robot showed Scarboro seated on the floor with an apparent gunshot wound and a firearm near his hand. SET agents then entered the residence, removed Scarboro, and turned him over to emergency medical personnel.

Scarboro was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

His body will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Pooler for an autopsy. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be forwarded to the Atlantic Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.

The investigation remains ongoing.
