One Man Dead, Another Arrested After Shooting at Austell Bar
AUSTELL, GA – Douglas County deputies are continuing to investigate a shooting that left one man dead and four others injured at a bar in Austell early Saturday morning.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 2:47 a.m. on January 10 to reports of a shooting at Marlene’s Bar. When they arrived, four individuals were found suffering from gunshot-related injuries. All four were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
Investigators determined the shooting followed multiple disturbances involving two individuals earlier in the night. During the incident, one of the suspects, identified as Jack Dewayne Shanks Jr., was fatally wounded.
The second suspect, Chauncey Dashon Martin, was taken into custody. Martin has been charged with felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and tampering with evidence.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available.
