Savannah Man Charged with Domestic Aggravated Assault Following Downtown Shooting
SAVANNAH, GA – A 21-year-old man is behind bars facing a laundry list of charges after an early-morning shooting in downtown Savannah left a woman injured.
Officers with the Savannah Police Department (SPD) arrested Kevin Smith Jimenez Morales on Sunday, January 11, 2026, following a shooting in the 100 block of W. State Street.
Early Morning Violence
The incident began at approximately 3:06 a.m. when officers responded to reports of gunfire near the city’s historic district. Upon arrival, police discovered an adult female victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to Memorial Health University Medical Center, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Pursuit and Capture
The arrest was made possible by swift cooperation from witnesses at the scene. Bystanders provided SPD with a description of the suspect and his getaway vehicle.
Officers quickly located the car and conducted a high-stakes traffic stop. After a preliminary investigation, Jimenez Morales was detained and taken into custody.
Extensive Charges Filed
Jimenez Morales faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges related to both the shooting and his subsequent attempt to flee the scene:
- Assault & Weapons Charges: Domestic Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm during Commission of a Felony, and Pointing or Aiming a Gun at Another.
- Driving & Traffic Charges: Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Hit and Run (Duty of Driver to Stop at or Return to Scene).
- Public Safety Charges: Reckless Conduct and Littering.
