Atlantic Station Murder Suspect Surrenders After Month-Long Investigation

ATLANTA, GA – A 26-year-old man is in custody following a deadly shooting that occurred late last year near Atlantic Station. Dominique Shay Benton of Atlanta turned himself in to the Fulton County Jail on Friday, January 9, 2026, ending a weeks-long search for a suspect in the November homicide.

The November Shooting

The incident took place on November 24, 2025, at approximately 10:24 p.m. Atlanta Police officers were dispatched to the 464 block of Bishop St. NW, a residential and commercial corridor located just west of the Atlantic Station shopping and entertainment district.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders discovered an adult male inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the victim has not been formally released by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office pending notification of all next of kin.

Investigation and Arrest

Following the shooting, detectives from the APD Homicide Unit spent more than a month gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. The investigation eventually led to the identification of Benton as the primary suspect.

On January 9, 2026, Benton surrendered to authorities at the Fulton County Jail without further incident. He has been officially charged with:

  • Murder
  • Aggravated Assault

Current Status

Benton remains in custody at the Fulton County Jail, where he is being held without bond. The Atlanta Police Department continues to investigate the motive behind the shooting and whether any additional individuals were involved in the incident.
