MILLEDGEVILLE, GA – A Baldwin County man with a long history of violent sexual offenses has been sentenced to three decades in prison following an attempted rape that prosecutors say could have ended far worse.

On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, 50-year-old Jimmy Terrell Scott was sentenced to 30 years in prison in Baldwin County Superior Court after being convicted of Criminal Attempt to Commit Rape. The sentence was handed down by Superior Court Judge Amanda Petty, who followed the state’s recommendation.

The case stems from an incident on March 25, 2025. According to court records, Scott’s housing case worker arrived at his residence to conduct a routine inspection. Both the victim and Scott later confirmed that he used a false pretense to get her into his bedroom. Once inside, Scott shut the door, threw her onto the bed, and attempted to sexually assault her.

The attack was interrupted when the victim managed to activate her car alarm, creating enough noise and distraction for her to escape and get to safety.

Prosecutors noted Scott’s extensive criminal history, which includes a 1994 conviction for aggravated assault with intent to rape and a 2004 conviction for aggravated assault with intent to rape and false imprisonment. At the time of this latest attack, Scott had been out of prison for less than a year.

In a statement, the Ocmulgee District Attorney’s Office said its hope is that Scott will spend the remainder of his natural life behind bars.

The DA’s Office also recognized Judge Petty for the sentence, Assistant District Attorney Sydney Segers for prosecuting the case, and the Milledgeville Police Department and Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office for their investigative work.
