Savannah Family Man Killed in Target Parking Lot Dispute; Suspect in Custody
SAVANNAH, GA – The Savannah Police Department has arrested 30-year-old Tyler Linn in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Jan. 4, 2026, in the 14000 block of Abercorn Street, in the Target parking lot.
Officers responded around 4:10 p.m. and found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified as Matthew Traywick, who worked for Vaden Automotive, was transported by EMS to Memorial Health University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
According to investigators, the shooting resulted from an argument over a parking spot. Linn remained on scene following the incident and has been charged with murder and aggravated assault.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of Matthew Traywick. Matthew was a valued member of the Vaden family for years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children, and those closest to him during this incredibly difficult time. We ask for privacy for his family and our team as we grieve this tragic loss,” said Vaden Automotive in a statement.
On Jan. 4, Savannah Mayor Van Johnson released the following statement:
“Today, our community was shaken by a tragic act of violence in a place where people should feel safe, a parking lot at the Target on Abercorn Street. The Savannah Police Department responded to reports of a shooting that occurred during an alleged argument over a parking dispute. An adult male was struck and later died from his injuries. We have the suspect in custody and the investigation remains active.
Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the victim. No disagreement over a parking space, or anything else should ever end in the loss of life. This needless, unnecessary violence underscores the daily pain felt by families across our city and the urgency of our collective work to reduce gun violence and strengthen community safety.
I thank the Savannah Police Department for their swift response and ongoing investigation, and I urge anyone with information to assist law enforcement. We must continue working together to build a Savannah where conflicts are resolved peacefully and every resident can live without fear.
This tragedy is a reminder that we must redouble our efforts in violence prevention, conflict resolution, and community support services. Let us honor the life lost today by committing to a safer, more compassionate Savannah.”
