Acworth Officer Saves Assisted Living Resident Using Life-Saving Airway Device

ACWORTH, GA – An Acworth police officer is being credited with saving a life after responding to a medical emergency at an assisted living facility on New Year’s Day.

On Thursday morning, January 1, 2026, at approximately 8:27 a.m., Acworth Police officers were dispatched to Northstar Square Assisted Living Facility, located at 3250 Quick Water Landing, after reports that a resident was choking and turning blue. Facility staff were already performing CPR when officers arrived.

Officer Salone was the first officer on scene and was immediately directed to the patient. Recognizing the severity of the situation, he quickly deployed his department-issued LifeVac device. The obstruction was successfully removed from the resident’s airway, allowing the individual to breathe again.

Cobb County Fire and Metro EMS evaluated the resident on scene before transporting them to Kennestone Hospital for further medical evaluation.

The Acworth Police Department praised Officer Salone for his quick thinking and decisive action, noting that his response directly contributed to saving the resident’s life.

In 2024, the Acworth Police Department equipped every officer with a LifeVac device. This incident marks the third successful use of the device by Acworth officers. LifeVac is a portable airway clearance device designed to remove obstructions during choking emergencies using a one-way valve system that creates suction without forcing the object deeper into the airway.

Department officials say the incident highlights the importance of specialized training and equipment in emergency response situations, particularly when seconds can make the difference between life and death.
