Columbus Police Seize Drugs, Guns and Make Multiple Arrests During New Year’s Eve Operations
COLUMBUS, GA – On New Year’s Eve, the Columbus Police Department carried out a coordinated enforcement effort aimed at reducing crime and impaired driving as the year came to a close. The operation included both a Special Operations detail targeting criminal activity and a Traffic Unit detail focused on DUI enforcement.
During the Special Operations initiative, officers made 141 contacts that resulted in 16 arrests and the clearing of seven outstanding warrants. Officers also recovered six firearms and seized a variety of illegal drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, promethazine, and other pills.
At the same time, the department’s Traffic Unit conducted a New Year’s Eve DUI detail. Officers made 169 contacts, leading to five arrests, including six arrests for driving under the influence. One firearm was also recovered during the traffic enforcement effort.
In addition to New Year’s Eve operations, the Traffic Unit ran an extended five-day DUI detail from December 27 through December 31, 2025. That effort resulted in additional arrests, the recovery of more firearms, and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.
Police say the increased enforcement was designed to improve public safety during a traditionally high-risk holiday period and credit the proactive approach with helping keep dangerous individuals off the streets and roadways.
