Macon Man Arrested After Violent Shooting Spree, Carjacking, and Burglary Series
On December 9, 2024, Frankie Lee Fletcher, a 39-year-old resident of Macon, was arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including Aggravated Assault, Carjacking, and Burglary, after a violent spree of incidents spanning several hours on December 8, 2024.
The series of events began at approximately 8:10 p.m. when the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Macon Inn, located at 1044 Riverside Drive, after reports of a male suspect brandishing a firearm and firing shots into the air. Witnesses described the suspect as a male wearing blue sweats. Fletcher fled the area toward Third Street and Mulberry Street. Within moments, a report of shots fired at unoccupied vehicles near Mulberry and Second Street was received. Investigators confirmed that Fletcher fired shots into three unoccupied vehicles and one occupied vehicle, although no injuries were reported from these incidents.
At 9:09 p.m., Fletcher committed a carjacking at Fatty’s Pizza on Second Street. The suspect brandished a firearm and demanded that the victim withdraw money from an ATM before stealing the victim’s blue Honda Civic and fleeing the scene. The stolen vehicle was later traced by the Criminal Intelligence Unit to Mercer University, near Florence Avenue.
The crime spree continued when, at approximately 10:10 p.m., deputies responded to a commercial alarm at the Academy Sports store at 1689 Eisenhower Parkway. Upon arrival, deputies found the stolen blue Honda Civic backed into the front of the store, and the suspect was barricaded inside. Investigators observed that the individual inside was wearing a blue sweatshirt, blue pants, and blue shoes, matching the description from earlier incidents. The SWAT team was called in to resolve the situation, and Fletcher was taken into custody after being removed from the barricaded area.
Fletcher was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center and charged with seven counts of Aggravated Assault, four counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, four counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, felony Second Degree Burglary, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Motor Vehicle Carjacking, and Armed Robbery.
The investigation has also linked Fletcher to commercial burglaries at Kitchen Pride on Columbus Road and Krunch Munch on Montpelier Avenue, which are still under investigation. Fletcher is being held without bond as authorities continue to pursue additional charges.
The swift response of law enforcement, including deputies, investigators, and the SWAT team, led to the apprehension of Fletcher without further violence. The case remains under active investigation, with more charges likely to follow.
