Macon Man Arrested After Barricading Himself Inside Academy Sports Store
On Sunday, December 8, 2024, at approximately 10:10 p.m., deputies with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a commercial alarm at Academy Sports, located at 1689 Eisenhower Parkway. Upon arrival, deputies confirmed that a male was inside the building. The suspect immediately barricaded himself within the store.
Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, Hostage Negotiators, and SWAT Team members were called to the scene to assist. After a brief standoff, the suspect was removed from the barricaded area. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Frankie Lee Fletcher Jr. of Macon. Fletcher had rammed a vehicle into the front door of the store to gain entry and sustained injuries in the process. He was transported to a local medical facility before being booked into the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center.
Fletcher faces several charges, including Felony Second Degree Burglary, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
