Man Shot and Killed By Police After Stabbing Incident on Greyhound Bus in Atlanta

At the request of the Atlanta Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead. The incident occurred early on December 5, 2024, when a man, a passenger on a Greyhound bus traveling south on Interstate 75, stabbed another passenger, injuring him non-fatally.

The bus pulled over on the shoulder of the interstate, and the suspect exited the vehicle, acting erratically. Officers from the Atlanta Police Department arrived at the scene and encountered the man, who attempted to flee. After a brief chase, officers attempted to subdue him using a Taser, but it was ineffective.

The suspect climbed over a divider wall onto an exit ramp leading to Cleveland Avenue, where he continued to ignore officers’ commands. As officers approached, the man rapidly advanced toward them with a knife in hand. Fearing for their safety, the officers fired at the man, striking him. Emergency personnel provided aid on-site before the man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. His body will be taken to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation, and upon its completion, the case file will be forwarded to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review. No officers were injured during the incident.
