Suspect Arrested in November Violent Bank Robbery in Atlanta, Employee Stabbed

On December 2, 2024, MARTA Police took 32-year-old Mitchell Hester into custody on charges stemming from a violent robbery attempt at United Community Bank on Caroline Street NE in Atlanta. Hester, born in July 1992, faces charges of Criminal Attempt-Armed Robbery, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm or Knife During the Commission of or Attempt to Commit Certain Felonies. He was transported to Fulton County Jail.

The incident occurred on November 20, 2024, at approximately 12:37 p.m. Police responded to reports of a robbery in which an unidentified man entered the bank, went behind the employee counter, and demanded money. When informed that no money was available, the suspect stabbed a female employee in the stomach before fleeing on foot. The victim was transported to a hospital in stable condition and was reported to be alert, conscious, and breathing.

Authorities credited their robbery unit’s analysts and detectives for quickly identifying Hester and securing arrest warrants. Collaboration with MARTA Police was instrumental in apprehending the suspect. Both agencies emphasized their commitment to justice and public safety.
