East Point Police Officers Escape Serious Injury After 16-Wheeler Strikes Three Patrol Cars on I-285
Three East Point Police vehicles were completely destroyed early Wednesday morning, November 20th, after being struck by a 16-wheeler tractor-trailer while officers were working an accident on I-285 South. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. as the officers were stationed on the highway.
One officer was inside his patrol vehicle when the crash happened. Another officer, attempting to flee on foot, fell and was struck by his own vehicle, but fortunately did not sustain life-threatening injuries. The third officer narrowly avoided serious injury by fleeing on foot into oncoming traffic to escape the impact.
All three officers were transported to the hospital for further evaluation, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening. Authorities are investigating the crash and have not yet disclosed further details.
