Officer-Involved Shooting in Fairburn Leads to Fatality, K9 Death, and Deputy Injury

An officer-involved shooting on the night of November 13, 2024, resulted in the death of one man, the death of a Coweta County Sheriff’s Office K9, and the injury of a deputy. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation at the request of the Fairburn Police Department.

At approximately 10:50 p.m., deputies from the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle for a registration violation. The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Jason Andre Wilson of Atlanta, refused to stop, leading to a pursuit into Fulton County. The deputies performed a PIT maneuver to disable Wilson’s vehicle.

Fairburn Police officers responded to assist, and as they approached Wilson’s vehicle, he opened fire toward them with an AK pistol. Officers and deputies returned fire, striking and killing Wilson.

During the exchange, Coweta County K9 Titan was shot and killed, and one deputy was also wounded. The injured deputy was taken to a local hospital where he is expected to survive.

Wilson’s body will be transported to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The GBI will review the case, and once the investigation is complete, the case file will be handed over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for further review.
