Atlanta Man Dies Months After Shooting Stemming from Basketball Dispute

The Atlanta Police Department has updated the status of a July 2024 aggravated assault case into a homicide investigation following the death of the victim on November 8, 2024. The man had been admitted to a local hospital and was pronounced dead due to complications from a gunshot wound sustained earlier in the year.

The original incident occurred on July 14, 2024, around 11:27 p.m., when officers responded to a shooting at 1572 Hardee Street. Upon arrival, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported to the hospital by Grady EMS for emergency treatment. According to the preliminary investigation, the shooting took place following a dispute over a basketball that repeatedly landed on the victim’s property and hit his barbeque grill. Tensions escalated, resulting in the shooting.

Following the victim’s recent death, Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating to clarify the circumstances of the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
