Clayton County Woman Sentenced to 10 Years for Arson After Setting Fire to Estranged Husband’s Workplace

Clayton County District Attorney Tasha M. Mosley announced the conviction of Mirian E. Roldan on charges of Arson in the 2nd Degree. A Clayton County jury returned a guilty verdict, leading to a sentence of 10 years with five years to serve in custody.

Evidence presented at trial showed that on May 1, 2022, Roldan’s estranged husband had rented a building at 1331 Citizens Parkway, Suite 205, in Morrow, Georgia. The two were separated, and her husband had requested no further contact. Despite this, Roldan continued to attempt contact and arrived at the building on the day of the fire. An investigation by the Clayton County Fire Marshal revealed the fire had four points of origin, indicating it was intentionally set. Roldan was admitted to the hospital on the same day with cuts, burns on her hands, and an injured eye consistent with a burn, and texted her estranged husband, saying, “I burned my eye off for you.”

Following the investigation by Lt. Mitchell Griffin of the Fire Marshal’s Office, arson warrants were issued for Roldan’s arrest. The trial, led by Assistant District Attorney Brianna W. Jordan and Third Year Practice Kyle Gifford, concluded on October 24, 2024, under the presiding Chief Judge Robert L. Mack.

In response to the conviction, District Attorney Mosley stated, “Deliberate acts of destruction such as arson endanger lives, property, and the well-being of our neighborhoods. I am grateful for the diligent work of my team and everyone involved in bringing this case to justice, reinforcing that such reckless actions will not be tolerated.”
