Dunwoody Police Launch Public Safety Ambassador Program to Enhance Community Service

The Dunwoody Police Department has officially launched the new Public Safety Ambassador Program, aimed at improving public safety and boosting response times. The program introduces civilian employees, known as Public Safety Ambassadors, who assist with non-emergency calls, provide roadside assistance, and address traffic hazards.

“We are excited to launch the Public Safety Ambassador Program, which is a key part of our commitment to enhancing service and safety in Dunwoody. By integrating Ambassadors into our operations, we’re able to keep more sworn officers available for serious calls, thereby improving our response times and strengthening the quality of service we provide to our community,” said Chief Carlson.

Approved by the Dunwoody City Council in May 2024, the program funds four Public Safety Ambassador positions. Two Ambassadors have completed the program’s 40-hour classroom training, followed by hands-on training with a sworn officer. These Ambassadors operate specialized vehicles designed to handle vehicle lockouts, provide first aid, direct traffic, and offer critical roadside assistance.

The program is designed to free up sworn officers from handling low-priority calls, allowing them to focus on more urgent situations. The Dunwoody Police Department is currently recruiting for two additional ambassador positions. For more information, visit the city’s career opportunities page at Dunwoody GA website.
