Five Arrested After Armed U-Haul Carjacking Uncovers Stolen Vehicles and Firearm in Bibb County

Early Monday, Bibb County Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigators responded to an armed carjacking call involving a U-Haul van on Worsham Avenue. According to initial reports, two victims were driving a U-Haul when they were approached by suspects in a black Hyundai Veloster. The suspects, armed with a firearm, allegedly demanded the van and forced the drivers out, taking the vehicle at gunpoint.

Following a quick investigation, deputies located the stolen U-Haul and the suspects at a residence on Villa Esta Avenue. The black Hyundai Veloster, later confirmed as stolen, was parked nearby. Upon approaching the vehicles, deputies conducted a search and discovered a stolen firearm inside the U-Haul.

In a surprising turn, investigators determined that the two carjacking victims, who had originally been operating the U-Haul, were also in possession of the vehicle illegally, as it was reported stolen prior to the incident. This led to the arrest of all five individuals, including the original carjacking victims, for charges linked to the theft and armed robbery.

The five suspects, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, were transported to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center. They now face a range of charges, from armed robbery to felony theft by receiving, as investigators work to determine the full scope of the incident and any further connections between the stolen U-Haul, Hyundai Veloster, and firearm.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation and urges anyone with additional information to contact their office directly.
