SWAT Team Arrests Armed Suspect After Attempted Apartment Break-In in Warner Robins

On Friday, November 1, 2024, around 7:20 a.m., Warner Robins Police Department officers responded to reports of an armed suspect attempting to break into apartments on the 6000 block of Lakeview Road. The incident involved 22-year-old Gkhiya Releford and 23-year-old Jamaria Thomas, who reported that a man armed with a firearm attempted to gain access to their apartments.

Before police arrived, the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Michael Erwin, retreated to his apartment in the same complex. Detective Pierce from the Criminal Investigations Division was assigned to investigate the incident. Attempts to contact Erwin were initially unsuccessful, prompting the Warner Robins Police Department SWAT team and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Unit to respond.

Law enforcement contained the situation and eventually succeeded in safely taking Erwin into custody without incident. Erwin now faces charges of home invasion, first-degree burglary, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
