Armed Patron Shot Dead After Firing at Police During Gas Station Confrontation in Conyers
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred Wednesday morning, October 30, 2024, at a Chevron gas station on Sigman Road in Conyers. The incident began around 7:00 a.m. when Conyers Police Department officers responded to a disturbance call from the store clerk, who reported a patron, identified as 40-year-old Jesse Roach of Carrollton, GA, had threatened him with a firearm.
When officers arrived, they found Roach inside the store. As they attempted to detain and identify him, Roach pushed past officers and exited the building. An officer deployed a taser, but Roach was able to remove the probes. Moments later, he allegedly pulled a gun from his pocket and fired at the officers. Officers returned fire, striking Roach. He was taken to Piedmont Rockdale Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Roach’s body has been sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The GBI will conduct an independent investigation, and once concluded, the findings will be forwarded to the Rockdale County District Attorney’s Office for review. No officers were injured in the incident.
