Arrest Made in Fatal Hit-and-Run of Rincon Resident; Suspect Facing Vehicular Homicide and Drug Charges

The Rincon Police Department has arrested 30-year-old Jeremy Lambert in connection with a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of 70-year-old Steven Schmidt. Shortly after midnight, officers responded to a call on Willowpeg Way in the Lost Plantation neighborhood, where they found Schmidt suffering from severe injuries. He was transported to Memorial Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Following an investigation, Rincon Police’s Criminal Investigative Division located and apprehended Lambert, who has been charged with Vehicular Homicide. Lambert was transported to the Effingham County Jail, where he was booked into custody. Additionally, the Effingham County Narcotics Unit has filed multiple drug-related charges against Lambert. The Rincon Police Department expressed gratitude to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.
