Man Fatally Shot by Officer After Gun Incident at College Park MARTA Station
On October 6, 2024, at the request of the Marta Police Department (MPD), agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) began an investigation into an officer-involved shooting at the College Park MARTA station in College Park, Georgia. A man was shot and killed during the incident, while no officers were injured.
According to preliminary reports, around 7:40 p.m., a man was spotted pointing a gun at another person at the station. An MPD officer located the man and followed him. Despite being given commands by the officer, the man turned toward the officer and reached for the gun, prompting the officer to fire, striking him. A firearm was recovered near the man.
The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office is set to perform an autopsy to confirm the man’s identity, which remains pending.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting, and once completed, the findings will be submitted to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for further review.
