Lawrenceville Man Convicted of Triple Murder in Drug-Related Shooting

A Gwinnett County jury on Friday convicted 25-year-old Justice Lusk of Lawrenceville for the fatal shootings of three men during a robbery aimed at stealing methamphetamine and marijuana. Lusk was found guilty on multiple charges, including three counts of malice murder, three counts of felony murder, and three counts of aggravated assault for the November 21, 2020, deaths of 64-year-old Bob Caverly, 33-year-old Steven Andrew Finch, and 45-year-old Eugene McClam.

The incident occurred on Creek Water Court in Lawrenceville, where police responded to reports of gunfire. McClam was discovered with gunshot wounds on a neighbor’s porch and later died at a hospital. Caverly was found dead inside his home near the front door, and Finch was found deceased in the garage.

Investigators learned that Lusk had been dropped off near the home by an Uber driver shortly before the shooting. After the gunfire, Lusk was seen leaving the scene with a bookbag and blanket, attempting to get a ride from a Lyft driver, who refused. Lusk then fled to a nearby wooded area and later stashed the bookbag and other items in a crawl space at a nearby home on Millstream Trail.

Police, with the help of a K-9 unit, located an AK-47 rifle, a handgun, muddy clothing, and a large quantity of methamphetamine and marijuana in the crawl space. Lusk was identified as a suspect through information from his Uber ride and cell phone records.

Lusk was arrested early the next morning after a 9-1-1 call reported a suspicious vehicle near the area where police had found his hidden items. He claimed self-defense during the trial, stating that he felt his life was threatened, but the jury rejected his argument.

Lusk was sentenced to three consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole, plus five additional years. Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson praised the jury’s decision, saying, “The families of these men deserve the justice this jury brought.”

The case was prosecuted by Gwinnett County Assistant District Attorneys Michele Sims and Diamond Johnson, with assistance from investigators and law enforcement officers from the Gwinnett County Police Department.
