National Guard Joins Telfair County’s Efforts as Recovery Efforts Earn High Praise

Telfair County Sheriff Sim Davidson expressed pride and gratitude as a group of Army and Air Force National Guardsmen arrived to assist the county’s ongoing recovery efforts. As local volunteers grew weary, the National Guard stepped in to help with essential tasks, including unloading semi-trailers full of supplies and supporting distribution sites.

At 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the Guardsmen had unloaded a trailer from Oklahoma and a semi-trailer filled with tarps, still in high demand across the county. “Without them, I’m not sure we could have gotten it done—at least not quickly, and maybe not tonight,” said Sheriff Davidson.

Davidson shared that Telfair County’s recovery efforts are being recognized as more efficient than in larger areas, thanks to the hard work and dedication of local citizens. “We were told that some larger towns aren’t using their resources as good as we are,” he noted, adding that local efforts in clearing roads and power lines have been instrumental in speeding up power restoration. He also highlighted the smooth operations at distribution sites, which have been restocked and will continue providing supplies.

Sheriff Davidson thanked the many individuals who have contributed to the recovery: “Thank you to those who worked so hard making our roads passable, manned distribution sites, cooked for linemen or volunteers, donated supplies, checked on neighbors, and prayed. There may be a lot we don’t have in our county, but we have what matters.”

He closed with a message of gratitude and faith: “God bless you and God bless Telfair.”
