Train Collides with Stuck 18-Wheeler in Dalton

A collision occurred on Wednesday morning, October 2, when a train struck an 18-wheel tractor trailer stuck on the railroad tracks at the Hawthorne Street crossing near downtown Dalton. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The incident happened just after 7:00 AM. According to Dalton Police, the driver, a Texas resident unfamiliar with the area, was cited for failure to obey traffic control devices. The driver did not notice a sign prohibiting large trucks from using Hawthorne Street due to the steep approach to the tracks, which can cause vehicles to get stuck.

The driver attempted to cross the tracks heading west toward Hamilton Street when the trailer became lodged. He exited the vehicle before the train struck, splitting the truck, with the cab remaining on the west side and the trailer destroyed on the east.

Dalton Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene, and a local towing company was clearing the wreckage at last report.
