Teenager and Young Woman Arrested in Illegal Street Racing Incident

On September 9, 2024, at approximately 3:11 AM, officers with the Auto Crimes Enforcement Unit responded to a report of illegal street racing at 172 Candler Road SE. Upon arrival, officers observed a red BMW participating in the street racing event.

As officers approached, the BMW attempted to flee the scene. Responding officers executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, successfully disabling the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger were taken into custody without further incident.

The driver, a 16-year-old male juvenile, was charged with multiple offenses, including Reckless Driving, Reckless Stunt Driving, Laying Drag, and Fleeing/Eluding. He was referred to juvenile court and released into the custody of his guardian. The passenger, identified as 19-year-old Sophia Soriano, faced charges for Participating in a Laying Drag Exhibition and Providing False Statements.

The 1989 BMW 325i was impounded as part of the arrest.
