Driver Dies in Overturning Crash on Lookout Mountain in Walker County
A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a driver on September 22, 2024, prompting an investigation by the Georgia State Patrol. Troopers from Post 41 LaFayette were dispatched to the scene at GA 136 and Lookout Drive at 5:43 PM.
Preliminary details indicate that a Jeep Wrangler was traveling east on GA 136 while negotiating a left curve. The driver failed to maintain his lane, causing the vehicle to veer off the right (south) side of the highway. The Jeep then traveled down a steep embankment, overturned, and came to an uncontrolled stop after striking a tree with its top.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by a Walker County deputy coroner, who estimated that the individual had been deceased for several hours prior to the crash being discovered. Authorities later confirmed that the driver had been reported missing in Catoosa County approximately 24 hours before the crash scene was located.
The Jeep was found approximately 50 feet down a steep grade, requiring multiple wreckers for retrieval. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains active.
