Smyrna Man Arrested After Armed Incident and Standoff on Atlanta Road
At approximately 3:48 AM on September 17, 2024, Cobb County Precinct Three officers responded to a call regarding an armed suspect at 1940 Atlanta Road in Smyrna. The suspect, identified as Eric Wilson, 42, of Smyrna, allegedly discharged a shotgun towards several people with whom he was present.
Upon arrival, officers found a female in the parking lot who had been inside the residence with Wilson. After initial interviews, it was determined that Wilson was alone in the apartment. He briefly opened the front door but did not comply with officers’ commands to exit, retreating back inside the residence. Officers then obtained an arrest warrant for Wilson and a search warrant for his apartment.
SWAT attempted to serve the warrant peacefully, but Wilson did not comply. Subsequently, officers obtained a search warrant for an adjacent, unoccupied apartment, suspecting Wilson might be hiding in the attic of the neighboring unit. When SWAT breached the second apartment, a drone deployed by officers observed Wilson moving from the neighboring attic back to his original apartment. This allowed officers to maintain visual contact, and Wilson was eventually taken into custody by SWAT without further incident.
Eric Wilson has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and obstruction.
