Barn Fire Engulfs Structure in White County, Response Teams Contain Blaze

On Monday, September 9, 2024, shortly before 7:30 p.m., White County 911 Communications received multiple reports of a fire at a barn structure in the 900 block of Highway 284 in Cleveland. The White County 911 center dispatched a structure fire assignment to the location, including White County Fire, White County EMS, and White County Emergency Management (EMA). The Cleveland Fire Department and the LACI Fire Service also responded as mutual aid. Numerous volunteers from the White County Fire Service assisted alongside full-time fire personnel.

White County EMA’s UAS1 drone was deployed to provide aerial views and fire oversight, while the EMA’s REHAB unit, operated by the Community Emergency Response Team, provided support and rehabilitation to firefighters.

First arriving units reported a 60’x60’ pole barn structure fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters implemented safety measures and focused on containing the fire to prevent it from spreading to nearby vegetation and structures. The fire was contained within minutes and was subsequently extinguished. Efforts then shifted to locating and extinguishing any remaining hotspots.

Firefighters remained on scene throughout the evening to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
