11-Year-Old Student Arrested for Terroristic Threats at Newton County STEAM Academy

On September 10, 2024, Newton County deputies arrested an 11-year-old male student from Newton County STEAM Academy in Covington, GA for making verbal threats towards students and staff on August 2 and September 5, 2024. The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) was notified of these incidents by the Newton County School System (NCSS) on September 10.

The juvenile has been charged with terroristic threats and acts and has been taken to the Juvenile Court System. This arrest marks the third student apprehended for similar charges within the NCSS since September 6, 2024.

Sheriff Ezell Brown is urging the community, including parents, students, faculty, law enforcement, and clergy, to unite in addressing these threats. He emphasizes that threats and violent actions will not be tolerated and those responsible will face consequences.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages everyone to report any suspicious behavior or concerns immediately, following the principle: “See something, say something.”
